Hi friends,
Last week I connected with Krystal B. when she reached out to me and others involved in an advocacy event for people whose power had been shut off by DTE. Krystal was expecting a baby any day and had been struggling to get her power turned on for a week. When she gave birth, she still did not have power. Just hours after baby was born, Krystal was filling out multiple forms for a medical exemption to turn on her power, but DTE repeatedly rejected the forms and refused to be helpful. Other agencies were out of assistance funds. After two days of phone calls with DTE we managed to get Krystal’s power restored—for now.
Krystal is a single mom and also has a seven-year-old son, and they both need oxygen every day for breathing difficulties. Right now she is waiting on unemployment to process after being laid off from her job at Chrysler over the summer and does not have much family support in Detroit. Her mom passed, and she has just one cousin who also has a family to take care of.
Can you help give Krystal some breathing room so she can get back on her feet? Cash is most helpful at this point, but if you want to donate supplies, she needs newborn diapers and other supplies for supporting her family through these next weeks. I’m planning on dropping by on Thursday and can take anything to Krystal that I receive by Wednesday evening.
Krystal sends her gratitude and blessings for everyone who is able to help.
