Kryelle's Story:

Our daughter, Kryelle Cassandra, was born on November 7, 2017. From the moment she arrived, she was a bright, happy child—always smiling, always bringing warmth into our lives. She was cuddly and playful with her siblings, filling our home with laughter and love. But everything changed the day she had her first seizure.

At first, we thought she was just struggling to breathe, but when the episode lasted over a minute, we knew we had to get her to the hospital. After a series of tests, we received the news that no parent ever wants to hear—Kryelle was diagnosed with Lissencephaly, which means “smooth brain.” It is a rare and severe brain disorder affecting only 1 in 100,000 babies. In a healthy brain, there are folds (gyri) and grooves (sulci), but in Lissencephaly, these are absent, giving the brain a smooth appearance. This condition affects a child’s development, movement, and overall health (source).

Despite her condition, Kryelle has always been a fighter. But Lissencephaly has made feeding increasingly difficult for her. She once ate baby food, but as she grew, she could only take formula, which isn’t enough to meet her body’s needs. Now at 8 years old, her doctors have told us she is malnourished. Her pediatric neurologist and nutritionist have recommended a PEG tube, a small surgical procedure that will allow her to be fed directly through her stomach. This will not only help her get the nutrients she desperately needs but also prevent the risk of choking or asphyxiation when she drinks formula.

As parents, all we want is to give Kryelle the best life possible—to help her thrive, to see her smile without the shadow of illness hanging over her. But our insurance won’t cover the procedure, and we are humbly asking for your support to raise $2,000 to make this life-saving surgery happen.
