Help Krueger's Move for PhD Studies
Donation protected
Emily Krueger, MS will pursue doctoral work at Ulster University. Support the Krueger family's move to Northern Ireland!
Emily worked hard through a prestigious post-MS research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, and began a dedicated job search when her position ended in January 2024. Despite her credentials and targeted applications to a variety of jobs both remote and in-person, the market was tough. Marshall graduated with his BS in May and joined in the search but hit the same road blocks. Although Emily dreamed of doing a PhD, she pivoted to focus on jobs that would meet their more immediate needs. They were able to live simply with the generous support of family as baby Duncan approached is first birthday, but savings were running low and stress was high.
Finally, in a last attempt at a doctorate, Emily expanded her academic network with researchers in Europe and found paying PhD positions with a shorter application process than in the US. She had several interviews and it was a great fit for her scientific and career goals. She got the offer at the end of October with a start date in January!
The Krueger's are facing a very quick timeline and minimal funds to make the move. After almost a year of unemployment the finances are a challenge including expensive visa applications, travel expenses, and setting up a new apartment, etc. The program funding will cover tuition and a modest living stipend, but they are responsible for physically getting there.
Please help the Krueger's make the most of this amazing opportunity and give them a soft landing in Northern Ireland!
