Help Kristin With Uncovered Expenses After Fire

Donation protected
Our beloved friend Kristin lost her home in the Los Angeles Eaton fire. She evacuated Tuesday night and by Wednesday everything was gone. Not only did she and her family craft every room and cabinet with their own hands, but it was filled with irreplaceable memories gathered over years of her love of travel, to see far flung friends and to experience the joy of the things they love together: commissioned art and signed comics from her yearly pilgrimage to San Diego Comic Con; handmade Christmas ornaments from London and Paris; hockey jerseys and t-shirts that she was always trying to pare down but couldn’t stop collecting; signed books from favorite authors; signed vinyl from beloved bands.

You’ve never met a person who loved their home more, or worked harder to take care of it and fill it with the things she loves: pottery that she made herself, so! many! succulents!, her 70s juice glass collection, aqua glass trees that she would put out every Christmas, the sideboard she refinished in robin’s egg blue, her massive cookbook collection that she used to make literally hundreds of cookies every Christmas to bring to friends, family, and neighbors. The three of us organizing this have spent more evenings than we can count at her house yelling at hockey on the tv and eating pie, coming back and crashing after late night shows, movie nights, road trips. Her home was our home too.

And if you know her, you know she’s always ready to drop everything to help anyone she can, from her friends (including making her house the place to go to watch outdoor hockey over brunch during covid, dragging her dining room table and television into her backyard so we could still all get together) to lgbtq causes to the tiny lost lizards who would wander accidentally into her kitchen and she would carefully and patiently rehome.

You probably also know she’s bad at asking for help for herself. But she needs it now from us.

There’s so much to figure out in the coming weeks and months, but right now we’re asking for help to get her the immediate basic necessities, uncovered expenses, and some little creature comforts, she needs to even start to think about next steps. All money will go directly to her and be used for these necessities as things comes up.

Thank you so much for your love and support.
