Help Kristy’s Cancer Battle and give ‘5 for the fight’
Our beautiful friend and colleague Kristy is in the fight for her life after recently being diagnosed with secondary cancer. This is devastating news as the cancer is aggressive and survival rates are low. For more about Kristy’s type of cancer go here: https://www.canceraustralia.gov.au/affected-cancer/cancer-types/breast-cancer/metastatic-breast-cancer
Kristy is a single-mum to her delightful son Charlie (aged 4) and it’s heartbreaking that after her battle against breast cancer a few years ago and overcoming some other challenges in her life recently that she now has another life-saving battle on her hands.
Kristy’s prognosis has been stated as 12-18 months without chemotherapy as the cancer is aggressive and spreading. Kristy is also required to undertake immunotherapy treatment which is at a total cost of $25K over 10 weeks.
This fund-raising page is to help minimise the personal cost of immunotherapy treatment while undertaking chemotherapy which is required to help extend Kristy’s life as much as possible.
Hang on – isn’t immunotherapy covered under Medicare?
Although immunotherapy is covered for some types of cancer, breast cancer isn’t one of them so Kristy is required to pay $5,000 for every round of immunotherapy treatment (each round lasts 2 weeks). It is not until after the 5th round of immunotherapy that there will no longer be a cost to Kristy for this treatment. This means $25K in total. There may also be other out of pocket expenses and treatment costs that Medicare doesn’t pick up.
So how can you help?
This fundraiser is about reducing the personal cost of Kristy’s treatment which is needed to help her have a longer life expectancy. We are asking Kristy’s friends and colleagues to dig deep and help her cover the cost of this much-needed treatment.
What’s 5 for the Fight?
5 for the Fight is a concept for individuals to give a minimum of $5 towards Kristy’s cancer treatment. If 1,000 people gave $5 each that would cover the cost of Kristy’s first round of immunotherapy.
We will be running various fundraising initiatives with a minimum of $5 per person to help raise these much-needed funds. You can of course give more depending on your circumstances.
What if I Can’t Donate any Money?
