Friends of the Blaikie family,
Sometimes the only way to share bad news is to just come out and say it: Kristy has stage-3 breast cancer, which is pretty bad. She's fighting it with the help of some great doctors from Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, on Long Island, and with their help we're eager to see her beat this thing and get back to living her life.
But the road is a long one, and as you probably know, it's also extremely expensive.
Anyone who knows us knows that asking for help isn't something we're very good at. But even with the aid of some excellent foundations, we're looking at a lot of medical and living expenses over the next year as Kristy fights her way back to health. So ... we're asking for help from the people we've known all our lives, on the North Fork and beyond.

The goal above is just a guideline -- it's something that GoFundMe makes you set when you start a campaign. Honestly, we don't know how much the total cost will end up being ... but we can promise you that every cent you donate will go directly to Kristy's care. We wouldn't ask if we didn't need the help.
(Any unused proceeds will go to the Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education and the North Fork Breast Health Coalition in a 50-50 split.)
It's a long road to recovery, but we're grateful she's walking it in the town she grew up in, surrounded by the community that helped raise her. Even if you can't make a donation, thanks for your attention -- and please keep Kristy in your thoughts and/or prayers.
