Kristy is the heart of our elementary school in Forest Hills, serving as our head cook for over five years. She is truly beloved by staff and students alike, always going above and beyond to make sure everyone is cared for. As a single mother, Kristy has faced more than her fair share of challenges. With no family to rely on—her father passed away when she was very young, and her mother is rarely present—she has worked tirelessly to support herself and her teenage daughter.

On top of this, Kristy’s last car required thousands of dollars in repairs, including a new engine, and she’s also had to deal with frozen and burst water pipes at home. Now, without a reliable vehicle, she is borrowing her 70-year-old neighbor’s car, which is old and unreliable. While she is incredibly grateful for this kindness, it’s not a long-term solution. Kristy also lives with degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia, which cause her chronic pain and limit her ability to take on more physically demanding jobs.
