Help Kristy and Her Family Recover After a Tragic House Fire

My name is Melissa Long; and I’m making this for my neighbor Kristy and her four children. Kristy is a single mom; she has two adopted children, John Paul (20) and Dasha (18) both whom have Down Syndrome. She also has two biological children; Daniel (11) and Emma (5).

On Tuesday, December 10, 2024; Kristy left to take her children to school, upon returning within an hour, she found her home interior engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, everything in the home is a total loss. Between the fire damage and soot; then there’s water damage and the overwhelming smell of the smoke. Kristy discovered that her home owners insurance policy will cover structural damages/repairs ONLY!! She has been told that the fire started from the stovetop; which has a factory recall due to the sensitivity of the knobs easily being turned on.

Our children have attended school together since preschool. As a special needs mom; I can’t imagine how hard it is for Kristy to try to navigate this difficult time for JP and Dasha; as they need routine and consistency in their lives daily. It could take months to recover from this event and unfortunately have only been provided funds from Red Cross for a hotel room for less than a week.

So; as a community, I beg that we come together to help her family out as much as possible.
