Hello! My name is Sarah-Jeanne Peterson. I am making this GoFundMe on behalf of my mother because she recently got diagnosed with stage two cancer.

Hello everyone, my name is Kristine Peterson. I live in Nevada, I am married to my husband Bill Hupp, and I am 62 years old.

I was taking my dog Sadie for a walk on 12/27/2025 at my apartment’s dog park. The dog park terrain is grass and woodchips; lots of the dogs like to dig holes. I took a misstep, tripped over a hole, which resulted in my ankle dislocating and then breaking in a few places.

I work part-time at a pet store and I couldn't work for 3-1/2 months due to my ankle injury. I got approved to go back to work and was so happy to hear that news. Shortly after beginning work again, I got a call from my doctor telling me to come in for some labs. My hemoglobin levels were at a 6.3. With levels that low, your organs begin shutting down. I went to the ER right away. I was there for 4 nights total, got 2 blood transfusions, and two colonoscopies in a 24-hour time span because the doctor wanted to get a second opinion due to an unknown mass in my colon. Later, I found out that the mass was cancerous. They told me I have stage two colon cancer that has migrated to my liver and lymph nodes.

My insurance paid 90k of my medical bills but I still owe 60k. The Nevada Health System has a policy that if you do not pay within 90 days of receiving your bill, they will take legal action. I received it on 04/01/2026 and I have to pay 60k by 06/30/2026 to avoid legal action being taken.

My husband Bill also has health complications; he has had multiple heart attacks and strokes. Due to our health complications, we both can only work part-time. It is hard for me to work because I am not allowed to sit at work and my ankle causes me great pain. I do wear a boot but after a couple of hours, the pain becomes nearly unbearable. I tough it out because we have rent, dog fees, medical bills, utility bills, credit card bills, etc., to pay.

My medical debt does not stop there because I have yet to receive any surgeries or chemotherapy.

I am already struggling to find a way to pay 60k and will soon have to worry about many more thousands of dollars owed.
