My niece Kristina and her husband Dean lost their home in the middle of the night to a devasting fire in Santa Rosa, California. Dean left to check on my parents and after taking 2 hours to get to their home only a few miles a way he was told to turn back. In the meantime Kristina and Dean's neighborhood was evacuated. She grabbed their two kids, ages 9 months and 3 years and fled with only the clothes on their backs. She found Dean a block away and they made it out safely.
But they lost everything. Not only was their entire house burned to the ground, they left with nothing but what they were wearing. They had no warning and no time to pack. These are not rich people. Their home, car, clothes, baby gear, electronics, toys, baby blankets, heirlooms, literally everything, is gone.
Kristina is a kindergarten teacher and Dean works for the city street department. They are humble and kind and don't know I have started this fund. They would never ask for anything so I am doing it for them.
Insurance doesn't pay for everything. Most insurance plans make you pay the first 10%. Of any claim. Yes you can get FEMA loans but they are loans, just at a low interest rate. They have a mortgage and now will have to get a loan to rebuild and loans to buy necessities.
They are great kids and need our help. Anything you can give will help. They need to immediately buy food, clothes and pay to live somewhere
Imagine if you walked out of your house and what you left with is all you have in the world. Your nightmare, their reality.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Diana.
