Help Kristin Schultz Achieve Her MFA Dream

I am Kristin Schultz, a 54 year old woman hoping to complete my degree to become a professional writer by getting an MFA at Vermont College of Fine Arts. I have completed my first semester and I am halfway through my second, doing very well. Due to the current political situation, and changes in how loans are repaid, I may not be able to complete my degree. I am appealing to others to help me reach my goal.

Part of my reason for writing is to share my mental health journey. It has been a long journey and I have had many setbacks along the way but now I am finally where I want to be. I have thought about how this could add to my life- I am a psychologist and will likely continue to work as one, but I want to write. It is my passion and I want to have all the skills I need to do so successfully. I want my recovery story to reach as many people as I can and I feel like I am poised to make a difference straddling two worlds- that of a patient and professional.

I currently volunteer at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) where I go to different venues to tell my story (such as colleges, health care facilities for the providers and/or patients, inpatient units, and more). I want to continue to give back and expand my audience.
