What was meant to be a simple, non-invasive skincare treatment turned into a devastating medical injury that has affected my appearance, comfort, and peace of mind.

In May, I underwent a Sofwave procedure — a treatment marketed as completely safe and incapable of causing fat loss. Within hours, I felt intense pain and visible changes in my face. Despite immediately reporting these symptoms, my provider, ( a board certified plastic surgeon ), ignored my concerns and failed to provide proper post-treatment care.

Over the following weeks, the damage became undeniable. My face visibly hollowed, and I began to experience excruciating pain whenever I was outdoors due to the injuries sustained. An MRI later confirmed fat loss and visible damage to my facial structure.

Even with clear medical documentation, and the fat that my iphone didn't recognize me, no attorney would take my case, since the injury wasn’t life-threatening, and my insurance refused to cover reconstructive surgery because the procedure was classified as “cosmetic.” In reality, it was the only way to restore support to my facial tissues and end the constant pain.

After months of research and medical consultations, I underwent fat grafting surgery — transferring my own fat to rebuild the areas damaged by Sofwave. This was not a cosmetic decision. It was a medical necessity to restore structure, reduce nerve pain, and restore my skin.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to pay for this entirely out-of-pocket — over $18,000 — covering surgical costs, anesthesia, aftercare, and recovery time away from work. I’m still healing, both physically and emotionally, but I am finally seeing signs of hope and relief.
