Hi, I’m Kristin. Some of you know me and some of you don’t. I’m a solo momma to my 9 (almost 10!) year-old son, Kai. All I have ever wanted is to be able to give him everything, as parents do. I think I’ve done pretty well, as he is the kindest and most honest soul you could ever meet. So honest. Kai has had a journey to get to where he is even at his young age. The last 6 years have taught us a lot about autism (ASD), ADHD, and pathological demand avoidance (PDA) and much, much more. I couldn’t be more proud of the big kid he is today. I love watching how his mind expands, and I know this move will be an amazing opportunity to build on everything we’ve accomplished so far.
We’ve been in Montana for a short stint after leaving our Colorado decade. While it’s beautiful here and the experience has been a good one, I have also learned a lot about our needs. They include sunshine, swimming pools, swings, friendship, and more resources. In our planned destination of California, all those things exist with even more opportunities for joy and growth!
ASD, PDA, and ADHD have created a lot of challenges for us to live in traditional ways. As it turns out, my child isn’t alone, and I’ve discovered myself in a whole new way because of his journey. I want to see him laughing with friends and building connections with people. He has expressed his desire for these things, too. We struggle leaving the house (or even the bedroom in his case) most days. A swimming pool right outside of our door makes that challenge a gazillion times easier as Kai LOVES swimming. Our very close friends are also there already, opening the door for spending time with humans regularly.
Our current financial situation doesn’t allow for extras or savings. In a few years, I can see that changing, but I’m not sure my mental sanity has that long. I also can feel opportunities for financial change in a new space. There are amazing resources in their educational system for Kai, and if I can get him in a location with enough supports, I’ll have opportunity to explore so many more options for income.
I am asking for help with moving costs. Everything donated will go towards a truck rental, fuel, and deposits. My calculations estimate it to cost around $4500. My goal is to be able to move in the fall. Anything, however little, adds up and I’ll be forever grateful. Thank you so much in advance for any monetary donations, well wishes, positive energy, prayers, and good juju you send out. I will more than pay it forward in any way I can. Thank you is certainly not enough.
