Holding Kristen Up While Layla Fights Her Battle

I’m sharing this update on behalf of someone who needs and deserves as much support as the world can offer right now.

Kristen is doing what any mother would do if her baby was battling cancer: everything. She’s caring for Layla, who is not yet two years old, through feeding tubes, hospital visits, and now—an entire year of chemotherapy. Once that year is behind them, if all goes well, Layla may be old enough for radiation.

That sentence alone is impossible to sit with. But Kristen does sit with it. She lives it. And she’s doing it while still trying to give her older son, Grayson, some sense of normalcy, some space to be a kid, even while everything around them has changed.

Kristen is out of work for the foreseeable future. She has to be. Layla needs her. Not sometimes—always. And while Kristen is giving everything she has to her children, she’s also facing the reality of life’s constant demands: food, bills, gas, and the quiet, exhausting weight of trying to hold it all together.
