Hello everyone, I am Sheila Asiimwe Wanume, mother of Krista Akankunda Wanume.

Krista was a premature baby born on 11.11.2017 at 0940hrs at 26 weeks. She weighed 0.85kg/ 850g and stayed in NICU for 61 days until she was finally discharged at 1.2kgs.
During her stay at the NICU, she overcame several complications like Atopic eczema, Hypernatremic dehydration, Respiratory distress
and Nasal septum erosion due to NCPAP prongs that damaged the cartilage, as a result, had to go through surgery.
We started noticing she was not responding well to sound in November 2019, we decided to take her for a hearing test. After several tests, It was determined that Krista had profound hearing loss. This has consequently affected Krista’s speech development and currently unable to say any words

Profound hearing loss simply means she can not be able to hear normal sound/speech and can only respond to loud sounds/bangs

Krista needs to go through surgery as soon as possible and have cochlear implants so she can be able to hear again. The surgery will cost USD 36,175, after which she will need to go through speech therapy.
