On June 25, 2025, my dear friend Krista Robinson began experiencing shortness of breath and went to urgent care, thinking it might be something minor. But after a chest X-ray, doctors found a massive pleural effusion (fluid buildup) in her left lung. It was critical. She was rushed by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital, where a chest tube was urgently placed.

After several days of draining fluid, doctors discovered a 10 cm mass in Krista’s chest cavity — surrounding her heart.

A PET scan and two biopsies followed. The devastating diagnosis: Stage 4 Advanced Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Krista will now undergo chemotherapy twice a week for at least six months. As she begins this intense and aggressive treatment, she’s facing not only the emotional and physical toll of cancer but also an overwhelming financial burden.

Side effects of the chemo include hair loss, mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, dangerously low blood counts, extreme fatigue, aches, fevers, chills, and rashes — all of which make it incredibly hard, if not impossible, to work or maintain daily responsibilities.
