Help Krissy and Tim cover crucial medical and other expenses

INTRODUCTION TO KRISSY AND TIM ROBINSON

My name is Monique Christensen and I've been a close friend of Krissy and Tim Robinson for over 20 years.

Those who know Krissy and Tim, know that they are people who are always giving to others. Over the years they have cooked for the homeless, fostered kids with special needs, and looked after ageing and ill parents and parents-in-law. They are always the first people to put their hands up to help in virtually any situation, offering both practical and emotional support, even when it's extremely costly for them to do so.

BRIEF MEDICAL AND LIFE HISTORY

In September 2023 Krissy, Tim and their puppy Pikelette moved into their first self-owned home after 27 years of marriage… it was so exciting for them! They knew it would involve ongoing financial sacrifice and also that work would need to be done on the house, but they were just thrilled to finally be in their own home.

A month later, in October 2023, Krissy was diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma in her uterus.

In December 2023 she had to finish working and close down her catering business, due to excessive daily fatigue and the strong effects of various medications.

Due to several other concurrent medical issues for Krissy, her oncology/gynaecology team have had to delay the full hysterectomy she really needs – but they are giving medication to hopefully slow the growth of the cancer. 

In June 2024, an MRI has now shown growth and changes to the cancer. Krissy will have a PET scan soon.

Other medical issues have also arisen, including atrial fibrillation (i.e. a fast and irregular heart rate, which required her heart to be shocked back into rhythm). Krissy also contracted shingles in her face two months ago. Even after all this time, the shingles is still evident and often painful. It is believed that the prolonged condition is a result of the stress she is carrying; medically, physically and emotionally.

FINANCIAL NEEDS

Krissy and Tim have several pressing financial needs. These have been exacerbated by medical costs (e.g. Krissy's most recent and necessary MRI and PET scans cost them $1,500-$2,000 out of pocket). If the surgery she needs is unable to go ahead soon (due to the other medical factors), she will be required to undergo one or both of these tests again regularly – none of which are covered by Medicare.

The loss of Krissy's earnings since needing to close her business at the end of 2023, and the rise of living costs, also adds enormous stress to what is an already stressful situation.

They have delayed many necessary changes to their new home, the biggest of which is the lack of a kitchen island bench. Instead, they are using makeshift storage boxes and trestle tables on which to prepare meals. This is proving very difficult for both Tim and Krissy to prepare meals independently of each other.

They have also been trying for over 7 years to receive recompense for a shoddy (near-new) car that was sold to them by a dealer and whose issues have never been successfully fixed. It has not been driveable for some years now. This case was first referred to VCAT in 2022 and is still not resolved, even after many hours of work documenting and reporting the issues.

WHY HELP?

Krissy and Tim are not the sort of people who would readily ask for support like this. They are usually far more focussed on how they can support others. The amount of money they will need is unknown, so I'm setting the initial target at $50,000 and hope that the generosity of friends, family and strangers may help meet or exceed that target.

GoFundMe is unlike several other crowdfunding platforms, in that money pledged will go to Krissy and Tim, even if the full target is not reached. But my hope is that we will band together as a community to raise even more than $50,000 for them.
