I'm Dawn Sudweeks of Salt Lake City, UT and I've organized this emergency relief fund on behalf of my sister's family in North Carolina.
My sister Krissy, her husband Corey, and their two toddlers, Bryan and Bonnie live in Asheville, North Carolina, which has been completely decimated by Hurricane Helene.
Krissy is a stay-at-home mom, part-time barista, and freelance photographer. Corey works as a chef firing pizzas to perfection. They are some of the most generous ans hard-working people I know, despite limited means.
They took in Corey's mom while she underwent chemotherapy for 2 years. They recently invited our brother to live with them while he is in recovery from a severe mental health crisis. And now they all need our help.
As you may know, Hurricane Helene washed out roads and highways, cut off power and water, and has killed many people in Southeastern US. There are so many tiny towns and pockets of communities in the foothills and valleys of Western North Carolina that are completely cut off. I'm so fortunate that my family is alive and the home they are renting, while flooded in the basement, is still standing.
Asheville still doesn't have water service, and likely will not for several more weeks. For reference, please see this article about the Asheville Water Situation.
Corey and Krissy have been out of work while the restaurant they work at has been closed due to the catastrophic flooding. And while they have been able to get bottled water from an Emergency Shelter at the WNC Agricultural Center, their situation is unsustainable.
If you have the means, please donate so that they can seek safer accommodations with access to clean water, gas, and food. And so that they can replace personal items lost to the flood waters.
To support my brother, Ben, who currently lives with Krissy and Corey, please buy his albums on BandCamp for "name your price" so that he can have the means to also support himself. Ben is a very talented musician and audio engineer, and he needs so much support right now, too. His band is called Aegis Armory, and he has 3 albums available. He, too, has lost so many personal possessions in the flooding, on top of recent losses due to a mental health crisis.
If you have the means to do so, please donate to help my family in their time of need. If you don't have the means to help financially, please consider praying for them.
Fund will be used for food, water, household necessities, bills, toddler necessities like diapers and wipes, and for replacement of lost personal items destroyed by flood waters.
