Help 15-year-old Krishna fight bone cancer

Until 1/26/2022, life was full of hopes and dreams for Krishna. He grew up in a small village in Parbat, Nepal. He is good at his studies and is loved by his family, teachers, and friends. He lives a simple life but dreams big. He was an optimist and had faith that he would have a good-paying job and his parents could retire from strenuous work in the field. While walking his daily 2 miles uphill route to his school, he started feeling piercing pain on his right leg just below the knee. Initially, he thought maybe he slept wrong or pulled a muscle. Days went by, but not the pain; his leg started swelling, which kept him up at night, and he struggled to walk. When he complained about this to his family, they knew something was wrong. Soon after, his elder brother took him to a nearby hospital and was referred to a Bharatpur cancer hospital concerned with Osteosarcoma. To Krishna, who had never heard of the word, Osteosarcoma now meant a lot of pain and suffering. He was further referred to BP Koirala Hospital in Chitwan, another cancer hospital. Tissue samples were sent to India, and on 1/26/2022, his diagnosis was confirmed by pathology.

After the second chemo, his body started to show side effects, including skin discoloration, hair fall, weight loss, and continuous vomiting for 3-4 days. But he is stronger than before, as can be seen with his smiles. His third chemo on March 25 will determine the subsequent treatment plans. Doctors are unsure how future treatments will proceed, and he may also have to lose his leg wholly or partially.

It was heart-wrenching to hear this story from Kamal, Krishna’s elder brother. “I heard so many people losing their near and dear ones due to different cancer types but never even thought that my beloved 15-year-old younger brother in the family (Krishna) would have to fight a similar battle. After hearing the doctor’s report, I was devastated. I went to the hospital bathroom and later realized that I had never cried so much before. I used to work in Dubai, but the company furloughed me in 2020 due to COVID-19. I have been jobless for the past two years. I was the only provider for my family, and this shocking medical report added another painful situation. Once my tears were emptied, I came strong out of the bathroom, determined to treat my beloved brother by any means. I am also thankful to Pipal Chautari Youth Club, who has been supporting my brother through this platform कृष्ण सुवेदी बचाउ अभियान and will never forget every penny and words of prayers for my brother. Perhaps, God is also listening to my inner cries as I receive an email from my job at this most critical time of my life. Therefore, I decided to leave my brother under the care of my family and doctors to provide more financial support. Although I am unsure if I will have regular internet access, I will continue to be in touch with my family and friends while I am quarantined for five more days before my regular work schedule starts. I will continue to fight for his full recovery so that he can fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor”.
