Help Kris in his Long Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hey everybody, this is Andrew, Kris's stepdad. As you may or may not know,
Kris had a wreck on his dirt bike on Sunday...
And it was bad!!!
Lucky for Kris, Trevor was there to assist and call 911 to get an ambulance to get him to UT Medical.
Initial reports Sunday night were a broken femur, broken pelvis, many broken ribs, and internal bleeding.
Many treatments, tests, and scans overnight, and he was stabilized Monday morning to the point that he did not need immediate surgery, thank God.
But Kris is in intense pain. He is in traction, laying flat, and the excellent staff in the ICU are managing his pain the best they can.
We had general descriptions of his injuries, but Kris's mom asked for a list of his current condition.
Brace yourself, the list is long and intense...

Fractured ribs 5, 6, 7, 8 on the right side
Fractured ribs 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 on the left side
Both lungs partially collapsed
Fractured side lumbar vertebra lower back on L1, L2, L3, L4, L5
Fractured lumbar spine on L2 and L3
Small lumbar epidural hematoma (internal bleeding)
Severe fracture of the pelvis (open)
Fractured right sacrum (base of spine)
Fractures to upper and lower right side pelvis
Fractured pelvis iliac bone
Fractured hip socket
Fractured femur, upper thigh bone near hip
Right pelvis hematoma (internal bleeding)
Possible deep bone thrombosis (clots)

That is a lot of damage.

Some positive news over the last 36 hours, after three units of blood transfusions and medication and treatment, no more internal bleeding. The staff can take time to decide the best path forward for his surgeries.
They are in pain management mode until his first surgery planned for this afternoon (Tuesday, April 14, 2026).
Other surgeries to follow.

What this means is one to four weeks in the hospital. ($10,000+ / day)
Then two to eight weeks in a physical rehabilitation facility. ($1,000+/day)
Many more months of continued physical therapy.
Possibly over a year before he can have full strength and can walk regularly again.

We are getting offers for help from so many people and are very grateful. But this is a long-term situation that will have so many impacts that we can't even imagine. Some things we are concerned about now are as follows:
Health insurance, we do not know Kris's deductibles and co-pays yet, but we are very concerned.
Kris's dogs, we have had assistance, but we have to board them.
Bills, other than medical. We might be okay with most?
After Kris burns through all of his sick time and vacation time, short-term disability will kick in at something around half of his regular pay, then long-term disability after that. But if you are only getting about half of your pay, you cannot make it on that.
Along with mounting medical bills for ongoing medical treatments.

We still have to determine where Kris will initially stay when he gets out of the rehab facility. Setting it up with the proper equipment, not only for just supporting his condition, but equipment for his ongoing recovery.

Right now, Kris is struggling with pain.
When he eats, not being able to sit up, he gets reflux. Along with that, he has been getting hiccups because of it. Imagine the intense pain of having hiccups with all of those broken ribs?!?

Kris's mom and I put this together so that Kris can focus on his recovery and not be worried about how to pay for it.

Kris's medical costs will be overwhelming for the foreseeable future.

If you made it this far, you are truly a friend of Kris's and we thank you.
