Kratos was born on April 14, 2023, through an emergency C-section due to the discovery that he had intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and was not receiving sufficient nutrients to grow inside his mother. He was delivered weighing only 2 pounds and 11 ounces and spent a total of 34 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). However, after being discharged, things seemed to take a positive turn as Kratos started gaining weight appropriately and all the tests for potential concerns came back negative. He was a healthy and thriving baby. Unfortunately, their family faced a series of challenges. On his mother's birthday, they went on a trip to Pigeon Forge, only to return to a flooded home where they lost all their belongings. The heartless reality company blamed the flood on the family and instead of offering assistance, they evicted them. With limited options and a small family in North Carolina to rely on, Kratos' mother had to move in with her sister. However, due to the risk of illness and lack of space, Kratos and his mother had to sleep on a couch. Fortunately, her best friend in South Carolina offered them an extra bedroom, which they saw as a fresh start and decided to move there. Initially, everything seemed to be going well until a sudden turn for the worse occurred. On January 6, Kratos was rushed to a local hospital in Greenville as he was having difficulty breathing after being diagnosed with the flu virus B. However, the emergency room was not equipped to handle infants, so they stabilized him as best they could and transferred him to Spartanburg Medical Center, hoping that their Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) could provide the necessary assistance. Unfortunately, the options were limited, and they were advised that they were actively searching for a more suitable PICU. In desperation, they reached out to CMC Levine Children's Hospital, which had an available bed. Due to Kratos' critical condition and need for continuous oxygen, he had to be flown there without delay. Upon arriving at the PICU in Charlotte, they received the devastating news that Kratos was even sicker than they had initially thought. Kratos's medical condition was revealed to us, indicating that he is suffering from pulmonary hypertension, which has resulted in a collapsed lung and difficulty in breathing. To aid his breathing, he has been placed on a combination of 8-10 medications that sedate and paralyze him, preventing any resistance to the ventilator. Since January 7, 2024, his devoted mother has been by his side in the hospital, ensuring his well-being without missing a single day. Initially, Kratos stayed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for two weeks before being transferred to the regular floor. However, due to complications such as aspirations and incidents causing him to stop breathing, he had to return to the PICU three more times. On all three occasions, his mother witnessed him turning blue and struggling to breathe. To keep him alive, he had to be placed on different ventilators, including the oscillator. Unfortunately, his condition has not improved, and his blood oxygenation levels remain a concern. As a last resort, a day before his first birthday, the doctors have resorted to a surgical procedure to introduce a machine called ECMO to assist his lungs to see if that will buy time to find an underlying cause. The medical team has expressed that this is the final option before declaring that no further measures can be taken to save him. This challenging period has taken a toll on both Kratos and his mother, who now require financial assistance. We are seeking to raise $7,000 to cover overdue bills, furniture, clothing, and other necessities for their new apartment, where they have been approved to move in until Kratos can return home, and his mother can resume work.
