Hello Everyone! This is our sweet baby girl Kova. Kova is currently admitted into Hershey Animal Emergency Center for the next 36-48 hrs minimum.
Kova was diagnosed with diabetes back in June of 2025. We immediately made the corrective changes to her diet, switching her food to a diabetic-friendly homemade plan, proactively treating with insulin therapy, and doing all the correct steps and measures to get our baby back to normal. In early August, we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Her glucose levels had dropped, she was losing weight in a healthy manner, and she was back to her spunky yet bossy self. Then this week happened. Kova started drinking more and having accidents in the house. She wasn't as excited for meal times, and then she started throwing up. We took her to her PCP vet Thursday morning, and they did a blood panel that showed elevated white cell count and her glucose was high in the 400s. How is this possible when just 8 weeks ago she was in the low 200 range? They gave us medicine and said if she declines to call back. Friday, we called the vet back, and they said to get the meds in her, and if she gets worse, you need to take her to the ER.
So Kova is now admitted with DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis). Her glucose level is in the 700s, and there are very strong traces of ketones in her urine. This was not something we expected to happen as she was doing amazing with the new diabetic lifestyle. She was happy and on the road to healthy. Brian and I were not at all prepared for the estimated cost that this was going to be. Between the stay and treatment she will receive, plus medication she will be on, we had to scramble. I know times are tough and know many don't have the option to donate, but we had to make the choice to fight for our girl and give her a chance. I have seen many great things with support from others and am taking a shot in the dark asking for help towards Kova's journey right now.
