My Grandmother, Kouko Roman, is the owner of a condominium in San Jose. Her home was severely burned due to a rare Bay Area lightning strike on Sunday (08/16/2020). She was able to safely evacuate before the fire spread, but nearly all of her belongings were destroyed in this disaster.
Her home insurance will cover the exterior and structural damage. My grandmother is financially responsible for replacing all of her personal belongings, furniture, and temporary housing for the next year while her home is being rebuilt.
My grandmother is 70 years old and has tirelessly worked her entire life to hopefully retire in the near future with financial security. This new catastrophe has destroyed those plans and a future of financial debt most likely awaits. I wish that I had the financial means to support my grandmother through this disaster, so I am asking for additional support from my friends, family, and community. My grandmother has overcome many hardships in her life, and I hope we can all make this situation slightly less devastating.
2020 has been a bleak year for many people around the world, and we understand that many have fallen on hard times. Your patience in reading this page is appreciated, and please only make financial contributions if you can afford to do so during this time. Another valuable way to help without your wallet is by reposting this link/page, so this message can reach more people. Regardless of how you choose to help, my grandmother and I are extremely grateful for every single contribution to her cause.
