My name is Nick, and I'm reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea on behalf of a family that has experienced an unimaginable upheaval. I have known this family for years, witnessing their joys and supporting them through the challenges of life. Their world has been turned upside down in an instant, and they need our help.
I kindly ask you to take a few moments to read the letter below, written by the Rina Kallianiotis. In this letter Rina courageously shares the story of her nephew Kosta, shedding light on the challenges he and his family will face.
Thank you for taking the time to read their letter and considering how you can contribute to their journey. Together, we can restore balance and provide the support they need.
With deep gratitude,
Nick Andriopoulos

I am writing to you today to share with you the story of my brave nephew Kosta. Our little man Kosta is in a fight for his life!
On February 22nd, his 7th Birthday, Kosta was admitted to Lutheran General for a bacterial infection. The hospital ran a battery of tests and scans to find the root cause of the infection. After a week of being in the hospital, the infection was gone, but his white blood cell count was still elevated, and they were abnormal. The doctor decided to do a bone marrow aspiration. On March 3rd, after days of waiting, Kosta’s parents received the news that no parent wants to hear, he has cancer. Kosta was diagnosed with a rare from of Leukemia called Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia, also known as JMML.
After consulting and meeting with doctors, specialists, and the transplant team, they decided for Kosta to get the best care, he would be transferred to Comers Children’s Hospital and begin chemo treatment on March 10th, however, the infection in his came back and was admitted to Comers a day earlier on March 9th.
This journey is one that no parent ever imagines themselves on, but my sister, brother-in-law, and our family are prepared to do everything it takes for Kosta to be cancer free. It will be a long, hard, and challenging journey, but our little man has the will and the fight to get through this!
Kosta’s mom, my sister has taken a leave from her job and business to be by Kosta’s bedside 24-7 to support, comfort and love her little man, as the rest of my family has been supporting his twin sister Gabriella. My family and I are doing everything we can to ensure that Kosta receives the best medical care which is where you come in.
Your contribution to Kosta’s fight against leukemia will go a long way in ensuring that Kosta receives the best possible medical care and that his family does not have to worry about the financial implications associated with such care. Any amount you can contribute would mean the world not only to Kosta but to his whole family and the “village” of people that have already supported him.
Your kindness and compassion in this difficult time is deeply appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering how you can help Kosta “powerslam” his fight against Leukemia.
