Update from Carly:
Update for the GoFundMe:
Kory continues to be hospitalized in Olympia while they are trying to get his pain under control and manage his blood and platelet counts. They have started him on a new medication that is supposed to help his body retain the platelets he has. He is also continuing to get platelet infusions. Moving him to an inpatient short term rehab is currently on hold until he gets more stabilized. Doctors are hoping to get him out by the end of next week but this is a very fluid situation as we move through the process.
Thank you again to everyone for all the support.
Hello everyone. I just wanted to reach out and give an update. We are currently in Olympia, WA and working on getting Kory transferred to St. Luke's for inpatient rehabilitation. Insurance will not cover the transportation so we are having to stay over here even longer to stabilize his pain so that he can be transported by me in our personal vehicle.
As we were not prepared or planning for this obviously since we were just trying to get him a spring break trip with Bailey, the costs are adding up quickly between fuel, lodging, and food. We have been here for over a week now and looking at potentially not getting back to Spokane until Monday.
We are requesting any help you are able to give to help us get through the next few days. As always, we thank you all for the support and love you have shown over the last 8 months.
Hello Friends,
As many of you already know, Joe's best friend, Kory Bartel, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in August 2024. Kory will undergo his second round of chemotherapy, starting Monday.
Kory's ability to move around with his walker has been decreasing steadily. This has required the need for a scooter so that he can get in and out of the house with ease. With a scooter comes the need for a ramp. Insurance does not cover the cost of a ramp at their home, leaving the expense to be paid completely out of pocket.
Carly has gotten some estimates, and the one she received is approximately $8,000.
Carly, Joe, and I met to discuss this cost and the assistance that Carly and Kory need to make this ramp happen. We are hoping that our community can come together and help the Bartels with this cost.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions. I know that Kory and Carly are eternally grateful for any help.
