Korra has been my rock since the day I brought her home. She’s turning three on December 31st, and she is truly the reason I’m still here today. I named her after Avatar Korra because they’re both fighters—strong, resilient, and deeply important to my spirit.

Over time, she earned the nickname Korrazón—because corazón means heart in Spanish, and she is my whole heart. In so many ways, she has carried me through my darkest moments, and loving her has taught me how to keep going.

When Korra was a puppy, I learned she had a heart murmur. I never imagined how quickly things would change. In just a year, her condition has progressed significantly, and she has now been diagnosed with advanced heart disease. Her heart is working much harder than it should, and she urgently needs further cardiac evaluation and treatment.

Korra is an Australian Shepherd–Border Collie mix, full of energy and joy. She loves to play—especially with other dogs—and being active in nature is where she’s happiest. Even now, she’s still playful and affectionate, which makes this diagnosis especially heartbreaking. Her condition means her activity has to be carefully managed, and I’m doing everything I can to protect her health while preserving the quality of life that makes her her.

I am doing everything I can to fight for her, but the costs are overwhelming. Korra needs specialized cardiac diagnostics, imaging, and appointments with a cardiologist, along with ongoing medications to support her heart. The initial costs alone are estimated to be several thousand dollars, not including continued care.

I work at an elementary school helping support children in my community, but even with my job, I can’t afford all of this on my own. Korra—my Korrazón—is my whole world, and I am not ready to give up on her.
