Help Kori Olson Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Kori has been battling the slow growth of her rare, low grade ovarian cancer since its return in 2015 after her initial diagnosis in 2013.  Due to the difficult nature of treating her specific type of cancer, we are now seeking other opinions and options from top hospitals who specialize in treating Kori’s specific cancer and the serious complications that the tumors are now causing in her intestines.

Over the last 6 months, Kori’s tumors have been slowly obstructing part of her small intestine as well as her large colon.  Having these obstructions, she is no longer gaining the nutrients that she needs to stay strong and to continue any meaningful cancer treatment.  After her most recent hospitalization on Sunday, February 24th, a serious conversation was had between Kori and her doctors about the possibility of having surgery to bypass both obstructed areas.  If this surgery was possible, it would prolong her life in a meaningful way to seek further specialized cancer treatments; the alternative would to discharged her into palliative care which would possibly end her life after 6 months.

Fortunately, the wonderful Gynecological Oncology team at UMass Memorial in conjunction with a highly esteemed Gastrointestinal Doctor, also at UMass, are optimistic that the surgery can be done.  Kori is scheduled to go under the knife of Monday, March 4.

Once the surgery is complete and while Kori’s health and nutrition are improving, we will be seeking other opinions from top hospitals such as MD Anderson in Houston, TX, Memorial Sloane Kettering in New York, NY, as well as hospitals in Boston for the best possible cancer treatments to kick this cancers butt, once and for all.

Due to the fact that MD Anderson and Memorial Sloane Kettering are located out of state, we will need to travel to the hospitals and potentially pay more out of pocket for procedures and treatments that insurance may not cover because the doctors are out of network as well as travel expenses.

Kori is a strong young woman. If you know her, you know she is a ball of fire -- independent, smart, funny, and tough as nails. She has the spirit to fight her cancer, but needs everyone’s help to win! It is important that Kori focus all of her energy and strength on winning this battle.

We are seeking help to cover these extra costs so that we can seek the best treatment to prolong Kori’s life as long as possible so she can spend as much time with her 4 year old daughter, husband- Oscar, family, and of course many close friends.

Any donation amount and positive prayers and thoughts will be helpful and greatly appreciated!
