Help Konstantina Get an Assistant Dog (Lulu)
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Konstantina, I am a Final Year law student at the University of Reading, and I am suffering from Ulrich Muscular Dystrophy. But what does Ulrich Muscular Dystrophy mean? Putting it very simply, my muscles are very weak and unable to support my body. Consequently, I have extremely limited mobility and so I must use a wheelchair daily.
There have been many times where things fall on the floor and I cannot pick them up or where my sleep ventilator needs adjusting and so someone needs to be alarmed ASAP in the night or when I am walking out in the night after seeing my friends and I feel unsafe being alone as if something happened, I would be in no position to defend myself. Those considerations have made me really want to get a puppy Golden Retriever to train her as my assistant dog soon.
Assistant dogs are trained by professionals to assist disabled people like me with a range of tasks such as picking up things when they fall, opening doors, turning lights on, alarming people when something is going ‘wrong’, accompanying people in public places. In a nutshell, they allow people with disabilities to have greater freedom and independence. Most importantly, they are true and loyal friends.
After a lot of research, I have found my perfect puppy but due to COVID-19 and the lack of resources that the charity sector is experiencing, I had to find her privately. As you can see from the first picture, this little girl, Lulu, is truly adorable and I will hopefully be able to get her home as soon as she turns 8 weeks old. However, as I am a law student without a job, I would really appreciate any financial contributions, big or small doesn’t matter, you could make so I can use this money to pay for Lulu and her first needs once she arrives home. She will be my new best friend and best ‘team-mate’ in running over stereotypes and helping me be as independent as possible. My family has already helped me with so many things and I want to find my own way of paying for Lulu, so please support me by donating.
Once I get her, I promise I will be posting many lovely pictures, and as soon as she is ready to get trained as an assistant dog, I will post videos to raise awareness about the truly amazing support that assistant dogs provide.
Thank you very much,
Konstantina Nouka
