**PLEASE Help Konnor and Melissa Fight Lyme Disease
This is Konnor and his mom, Melissa. They have both been devastated by chronic Lyme disease. They have chronic pain and are so ill that they struggle just to do everyday tasks.
**They need your help to keep fighting.
Konnor is only 19 and has been ill for over 4 years. Konnor is an easy-going, loving, compassionate, intelligent young man with so much potential. Before Lyme he excelled in school, played sports, was involved in church, school and friends, served as Student Council president, made a perfect score on his ACT. He was applying to prestigious colleges with dreams of combining his love of technology with his love for God to find ways to help people in need all over the globe.
BECAUSE OF LYME--- Konnor wasn't able to:
· finish school and graduate with his senior class (he took a medical leave from high school Nov. 2016)
· go to Prom or any other activities
· complete the process of choosing a college to attend (let alone actually attend college this fall)
· do any of the 'normal' things a senior in high school would be doing at this exciting time of life
NOW: His entire body aches and he is constantly in pain. Along with many other symptoms he has extreme anxiety, frequent panic attacks, depression, and neurological symptoms that impair his memory and ability to learn and concentrate. His health continues to decline and daily life only consists of being at home and doctor visits.
Konnor’s mom, Melissa, desperately wants to help Konnor recover his health and get his life back. But, this has been difficult since she has been ill for 12 years. Melissa was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 and Lyme disease in 2012. She suffers from extreme fatigue and weakness, muscle pain, anxiety, neurological symptoms and inability to function. Coping with these illnesses makes daily function difficult and makes it almost impossible to help Konnor the way she would want to, or care for her husband and 3 other children.
Lyme disease is the fastest growing illness in the country. Its symptoms vary but are often very debilitating and notoriously difficult to treat.
**Unfortunately, insurance does not cover Lyme specific doctors or most of the treatments currently used for Lyme.
**Last year alone the KIEFER family spent $51,000 out-of-pocket in medical costs!
They are now faced with the devastating truth that they are not going to be able to financially support further treatment on their own. And if it goes untreated Lyme can lead to death.
The costs of treating Lyme is higher than with other illnesses because insurance companies do not recognize chronic Lyme as a legitimate, long-term illness and therefore, will not cover doctor visits or treatments.
