My beloved calico cat Koi (koi bean, queen bean, kibini, the list goes on) and me, her humble servant Danni, need your help! Koi still amazes folks with her vigor and charm, appearing to most as a cat much younger than her 18 years. However, as we all have experienced, life can throw you curve balls - and recently Koi has been struggling with recurring teeth abscesses and has been diagnosed over the summer with early to mid stage chronic kidney disease. I’d known Koi had dental issues prior to her adoption at the age of 5 in 2012, and over the years it has been notoriously difficult to maintain her oral health. Now, with her kidney condition, it’s become urgent to address her mouth for the sake of her overall health.
The ongoing infections put extra stress on her kidneys, so it’s critical for her health to have all her remaining teeth removed now - before her condition progresses and makes anesthesia riskier. Additionally, there’s a thickening of her right mandible that needs to be biopsied and screened for cancer—hopefully it’s just a bone infection, which is serious but treatable.
These funds will help cover the remaining cost of Koi’s surgery, biopsy, and medications. If we’re fortunate enough to raise more than needed, any extra will go toward covering Koi’s recent medical bills from July to December (which have taken major toll on my cash savings), her specialty diet for chronic kidney disease, and her ophthalmic eye drops (for a feline virus that lives in her facial nerves, acquired prior to my adoption of her - in her previous life as a taco truck street cat!), which are a regular expense.
I am fundraising for her urgent surgery as I am currently between jobs, having taken a break from full-time work to provide live-in care for my 90-year-old grandfather as well as my preschool child (the cost of childcare being also insane). Although I’ve been working part-time gigs every so often, my modest cash flow just doesn’t cover this and it would mean so much to me to avoid going into medical debt at this time (especially with credit APRs being absolutely criminal!). Any gift is wholly felt in my heart as generous—I know times are tough for everyone. With my birthday and the holidays just around the corner, if you’re considering any gift, please consider supporting this fundraiser. Thank you so much for helping my “old baby” and giving her a new lease on life! My vet says she’s seen cats live to 27 (!!!), and it would be a privilege to give Koi the best quality of life for her remaining years!
Thank you for reading,
In Gratitude,
Danni & Koi
