Help Koda Play Again!

Dear Friends, Friends we haven't met yet, and fellow animal lovers:
I write this in hopes of giving my sweet 7 month boy his best fighting chance for a life full of play, walks, and tail wags.
What Happened: On the evening of Monday, December 7, 2020, my sweet baby Koda was involved in a life-changing accident. A 50-60lb dog came running full speed to chase a ball while he was playing at the park. He collided head-on to an 18lb Koda leaving him unconscious and helpless.
After rushing him to the closest emergency vet, doctors found Koda catatonic and in shock from the trauma. They stabilized him with IVs and oxygen before rushing him to a Neurological Specialist. After a few days of seizure watch, 24-hour care, and X-rays, (and sleepless dog-mom nights), the neurologist found a spinal fracture of one of Koda's mid-back vertebrae causing him instability and possible compression of his spinal cord.
The preferred treatment plan would be surgical intervention involving spinal implants to stabilize and realign his spine. Though my heart immediately said "YES!", I was quickly skidded to a stop when I found a surgery quote of $15,000 in medical costs, making the operation no longer an option.
If you’re able to, please consider helping support Koda's chance at a life full of play and fetch back. If proper funds are raised, we hope to opt for surgery ASAP. Medical bills and prescriptions continue to roll in, so every single penny counts!
In the meantime, I am keeping Koda comfortable at home with pain medication, steroids, and sedatives with aggressive crate rest and minimal movement. My hope is to give his body a fighting chance with plenty of rest, TLC, and down time, though ultimately, surgery will give him his best chance at a full recovery.
His team of doctors are in awe of him and are all rooting for him. Everyone says he’s an A+ patient and has the sweetest spirit. The companionship, entertainment, and unconditional love he has given me in our short time together has prompted me to swallow my pride and reach out for help to give him his best life.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Koda and I and we hope to write to you in the future with positive news!
-Megan
