Koda is a beloved rescue dog who means the world to Jen, Sam, and their three children. On what started as a joyful hike in the nearby woods, Koda’s life changed in an instant. He ran down a hill and was tragically impaled by a stick. The injuries were severe—Koda needed two major surgeries to remove a total of 14 inches of stick from his body. He lost two lobes of his right lung and one lobe of his liver, suffered two broken ribs, and punctured his pericardium. For a while, he needed a chest tube and an additional drain, and he spent several days in the ICU, with his surgeon even sleeping beside him to make sure he pulled through the night. It is truly a miracle that Koda’s heart and major blood vessels were not punctured, and that he survived such a traumatic ordeal.
The road to recovery is long, and the costs are overwhelming. The funds raised will go directly toward paying for Koda’s surgeries, his ongoing care at home, and the many vet follow-ups he will need. They will also help Jen and Sam manage lost wages as they take turns caring for Koda and their three children. Koda is not just a pet—he is a cherished family member, and his family cannot imagine life without him. They chose to give him every chance to survive, just as any of us would for our own beloved pets.
Please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser to give Koda and his family the support they need to heal and recover from this major, unexpected life expense. Your kindness will help them continue to love and care for Koda, and bring hope to a family who has already been through so much.
