Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out because my dog, Koda, is in the fight of his life, and I need help giving him the best chance possible.
Right after my birthday celebration, I came home and something felt off—Koda was breathing heavier than usual and not acting normal.
The next morning, everything escalated… he couldn’t walk straight. I had to carry him downstairs and outside to go potty. I was racking my brain to figure out what happened. I finally remembered that he had hit his head hard the day before. I was making the bed in the spare room and he sneezed and hit his head on the bed frame I had just switched out. I rushed him to the ER.
While we were there, Koda tried to get up but couldn’t and hit his head on the floor. The second time, he went into a seizure right in front of me. It was awful.
We were referred to CVETS in Columbia for a neurological workup and MRI, and the results were devastating.
Koda had a brain bleed on the left side, and significant swelling… they also found a small tumor on the right side of his brain. The doctors believe it was a “perfect storm”—stress, head trauma, swelling, and the seizure all happening at once.
But here’s what gives me hope…
Koda has already made incredible progress.
At one point, he was blind in his left eye and couldn’t walk properly, with left-sided deficits. I spent a full week at home with him—carrying him outside, helping him stand, and even correcting his feet to help teach him how to walk again.
And somehow… he fought his way back.
He has regained vision in his left eye and is now walking normally again. He’s still on steroids (now down to 10mg), and we’re taking things day by day—but his strength and resilience have been unbelievable.
Because of that, I know he’s worth fighting for.
After meeting with the neurologist, I was given a few options: surgery with radiation, radiation alone, chemotherapy, or palliative care. After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to move forward with radiation treatment to give him the best quality of life and more time.
The cost is overwhelming:
* ER visit: $950
* MRI & neuro workup: $4,600
* Follow-up: $95
* Radiation treatment: $9,500–$10,500
I truly thought I had pet insurance in place, but I later realized I never completed the setup.
I’m doing everything I can, but I can’t do this alone.
If you’ve ever met Koda, you know how special he is—loyal, loving, and always by my side. He’s not just my dog… he’s my family, my comfort, and my best friend.
I’m asking for help to give Koda the chance he deserves. Every donation goes directly toward his treatment. And if you’re not able to donate, sharing this would mean the world to us.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of Koda’s fight.
❤️ Susanne
