Koda’s journey began in a Los Angeles animal shelter, where he was adopted and returned three times before finally finding his forever person, Christine. Gentle yet adventurous, Koda has since touched countless lives—helping traumatized rescue dogs rebuild trust and inspiring humans to bring their dogs along on life’s greatest adventures. He’s traveled across the U.S. as a loyal Jeep copilot, even working with brands like 5.11 Tactical, and at home he’s a loving big brother to two rescue kittens, Loki and Bugga.

Last week, Christine received devastating news: Koda has hepatic cellular carcinoma—liver cancer. Despite how happy and healthy he looks, this disease is silently growing and would lead to a sudden, painful end without intervention. The hopeful news is that there is a curative surgery. By removing the affected liver lobe, there is a very low chance of the cancer returning. No chemo. No lifelong medications. After surgery, Koda can return to the full life he loves.

Despite having pet insurance, Christine has already spent her savings on diagnostics. The cost for surgery and recovery is overwhelming, and Koda’s surgery is scheduled for December 30th—just weeks away. Christine is a single, self-employed woman who has dedicated her life to healing humans and animals through her work, volunteerism, conservation efforts, and rescue rehabilitation. She has always been the one helping others and never asking for anything in return. Now, she needs help to save Koda’s life.
