Patrick (Ko Nyein Aung) needs your support!
Patrick is a democracy activist from Burma. At only 17 years old, he had to leave his homeland in 1988 after the Burmese military brutally suppressed the student movement asking for democracy and respect for their human rights. He continued his support for the democratic struggle by supporting civil society organisations, women’s organisations and some media organisations throughout the years. The military coup by the Burmese military in 2021, ending a brief period of democratization, makes this continuous struggle ever more important.
Patrick has one young daughter and a son and a wife that he would leave behind if this operation cannot take place. He is the husband of democracy activist, women’s leader and working for the development of the independent, Tin Tin Nyo. He is very involved at home and without his support, his wife could not do the important work that she does – to raise the voice of women, to support independent journalism and to fight for women human rights defenders and struggle for a return to democracy in Burma.
Local civil society organisations – like in this case - often cannot support healthcare for their staff. And since they are not Thai citizens, Thai public health insurance does not cover them either. This is why they need your help!
Patrick was diagnosed with kidney failure in May 2023 with end stage condition. He needs a kidney and, until he can get it, he will need dialysis at least twice a week to keep him alive. The family has found a kidney donor and the operation can take place next month. To pay for the operation, the family will need 1 million Thai Baht (equal to 28,466 USD).
# for the operation itself and pre-and post-checks:
#funds for the days in the hospital for operation and recovery
Any support you can provide is helpful, no matter how small. It may help win time until the full funds can be raised by the family.
Patrick (Ko Nyein) and the family is sending blessings to those who have taken the time to read this.
