Hi everyone,

I’ve been feeding Knuckles (named by Olga) since winter. My sisters and I care for a small group of neighborhood strays through snow, rain, and heat waves. They’ve stuck around our block, always waiting on the porch for food. Knuckles was one of the regulars. He was doing okay for a while, healthy-looking, social, and always excited for a meal.

But about two weeks ago, he came back looking completely different: skinny, weak, dirty, and clearly in pain. His fur was missing on his back, and he smelled awful—flies were swarming around him. He could barely swallow food. It was heartbreaking.

We weren’t able to trap him right away, but thankfully, he came back, and we managed to trap him and get him help. I reached out to several rescues, but most were overwhelmed and at capacity with many emergency cases. I am thankful that I did receive resources and referrals to other places, and through that, I was able to get in touch with Olga from @midwood_kittycats stepped in. Even though she’s just one person doing this on her own and already has a full plate, she said yes.

Knuckles got X-rays, bloodwork, a medicated bath, and supportive care. He’s currently being treated for anemia, inflammation, and GI issues, and he still needs a dental. It’s a long list, but he’s got a big appetite and a gentle spirit, so we’re hopeful he’ll bounce back.

Olga pays for all the vet bills out of pocket, and this one is already in the hundreds. I’m asking for your help to make sure Knuckles gets everything he needs to heal—and to make sure Olga can continue saying "yes" to the next cat in crisis.
