We would like to introduce you to Knox!
Within days of his birth, Knox was diagnosed with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) also known as bubble boy disease. This is a rare genetic disorder in which infants are born with no immune system. This means that the simplest infections can be fatal and without treatment, life expectancy is around 2 years old. Thankfully there is treatment in the form of a bone marrow transplant and with the early diagnosis and treatment most children go on to live happy, healthy lives!
However, this means that Knox and his family have a long road ahead of them. There will be many trips to OHSU in Portland (3 hours away) leading up to the transplant and a long stay at the hospital after the transplant (100+days). While they are waiting for a bone marrow match, the family must isolate to protect Knox from getting any kind of infection. This means a lot of expenses and them being unable to work.
Your generosity and support would mean the world during this incredibly challenging time. Every donation, no matter the size, will go towards allowing them to concentrate on Knox’s care!
Another way to help is to register to become a bone marrow donor. This simple cheek swab will help to determine if you might be a match with Knox! Or another sweet baby! Visit bethematch.org
Thank you for sending positive thoughts and prayers for Knox! His family deeply appreciates your support!
