KL Studio are due to renew their lease on 14th Dec 2024 for a further 5 years.
This has been an extremely lengthy process starting 6 months ago and it is something that we had to take very careful consideration to given the increasing costs of our overheads and we have had to ensure we remain viable financially to continue operating from our building and budget very strictly to afford the costs involved with renewing the lease, particularly as this date fell just before December which is our quietest month and we are only open for 3 weeks. When we close for our Christmas break, we do not receive any income at all.
After receiving a breakdown some time ago regarding these costs, Kaiya has worked extremely hard to raise the funds and budget to make sure this could be covered before the end of the year. We were on track to do this following a busier than average December and organising additional activities such as our showcase, however last night, just as the showcase was coming to an end, Kaiya was issued with an additional invoice from the landlords requesting extra costs of £2500 to be covered before the lease renewal on 14th December. These costs were not clearly detailed on previous communications and were written very ambiguously within the lease.
These costs are in relation to the holding deposit needing to be topped up due to us having an increase in rent, the rent and service charge increase itself, and also for an annual insurance premium that is issued by the landlord that has also increased.
Obviously Kaiya is now facing having to find a huge sum of money within the next week, just 2 weeks before Christmas. With the costs of the building being so high, Kaiya is also now being forced to gain additional employment and is due to start a new job in January to help ensure the studio is able to survive as she's no longer able to take a wage from the business.
Kaiya was extremely against us setting up this gofundme because she never likes to ask for any help with anything. She works extremely hard to make sure everything is covered for the business, has never missed a rent payment, the studio itself is more than viable and has covered all its expenses up until this point. And when Kaiya begins her new job in January, it will continue to remain viable and stable. But these are extreme circumstances and bad timing due to it being just before our Christmas break and this has created a cashflow situation that many self employed people will be aware of and emphasise with. We know it's a difficult time of year for everyone but any help whether it be financial, advice or simply just kindness and well wishes are very much appreciated.
Our young members at KL Studio performed an amazing showcase last night showing all the amazing skills they have learned over the past year. The atmosphere was amazing and the emotions were very much running high and showing just how important the studio is to our students and the community that is built around it. And we want to try and ensure that continues for everyone who benefits for KL Studio.
