Thank you for visiting the Team KayKay GoFundMe page! Those of you who have the pleasure of knowing this awesome girl, already know what an amazing, giving person she is. She is kind, thoughtful, hilarious, and above all a great Friend, Daughter, Sister and Auntie. She is truly loved by all! In life, we all have set backs. We have struggles that make us question life, our future, and even our faith. Unfortunately no one is exempt. It is in these times that you rely heavily on your friends, family, and community. While it isn’t always easy to ask for help, as Kayt’s closest friend, I know now more than ever she needs prayers, love, and financial support.
About a month ago, Kaytlan found a lump in her left breast while doing a self check at home. She was terrified. Because she is predisposed to breast cancer, the very next day she was seen by her doctor and was referred for a mammogram. Over the course of one week, Kayt had several diagnostic tests done including an ultrasound, multiple biopsies, blood draws, and a mammogram. On April 18th, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. As you can imagine her world was quickly flipped upside down. Right away, she was referred to an oncology team where her doctors confirmed she had Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage 2, Grade 3 (aggressive) Breast Cancer. She was devastated. Since that day, Kayt has had several doctor appointments, one of which was with a fertility doctor. This specialist informed her that since she will be receiving treatment (chemo) in the near future, it is absolutely vital that she freezes her eggs in order to have children in the future. Kayt proceeded with his advice and had a very successful egg retrieval surgery on May 4th. While the egg retrieval was necessary, it was VERY expensive!! She will now move forward with a mastectomy surgery scheduled for May 30th. Most likely, she will have to do two separate mastectomies because her surgeon said there can be several complications when operating on both breasts at once. This complete process is projected to take longer than 1 year. After surgery on the 30th, Kayt will begin her chemo treatment plan. Most likely, she will have a port put in and aggressive chemo for 6 months to a year. During that time, she is expected to loose her hair. Depending on how she reacts to the treatment, she may be taking several days off work during the duration of her chemo treatment. There will be LOTS of down time in the near future for her. While she has one of the greatest work ethics around, and truly LOVES her job, there will be several days that she will be out of work. This is our biggest concern. Kayt has a great attitude and is ready to fight. Despite what lies ahead she is brave and courageous. Please keep her in your prayers and remember that sometimes life isn’t fair. We have all been there. Please do anything you can to support our sweet friend in this time of need!
How You Can Help: On behalf of her best friends and family, we ask each person reading this to pass on any financial support possible! To date, Kayt has used all of her sick and vacation days to accommodate all of her appointments. She will need several weeks off following her mastectomy surgery and will have a limited source of income during that time. Let’s all come together and lift our girl up! Donations can also be made directly to Kaytlan via Venmo (@Kaytlan-Schneider). Thank you for reading this, and most importantly for being there! Xoxo
