Two months ago, KitKat was a normal, happy 6-year-old. Then the flu changed everything.
What started as a common virus triggered a rare and devastating condition - severe swelling of her cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls movement, balance, and coordination. Almost overnight, KitKat lost her ability to walk, to control her body, and to do the things every 6-year-old takes for granted.
She is currently at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware, where her parents, Shannon and Jeff, have been by her side every single day, along with her little brother, whose world has been turned upside down too.
KitKat faces months of intensive inpatient rehabilitation, followed by months more of outpatient speech, occupational, and physical therapy. The road back is long, but she is fighting. And the doctors believe she will get there. A full recovery is expected, but it will take time, patience, and more resources than this family can carry alone.
Shannon has had to step away from work to be with her daughter. Jeff is doing everything he can, showing up for his family while keeping them afloat, and it is still not enough to carry a crisis this size alone. They need help.
Every dollar raised goes directly to helping this family survive what no family should have to face: the financial weight of a medical crisis on top of the emotional one.
For KitKat. For Shannon and Jeff. For their little boy who just wants his sister back.
Please give what you can and share this everywhere.
