Help Kitenga Girls Continue Their Education
Check out this video to hear from the Kitenga girls on what education means to them
Hi! My name is Ankita Sundar and I am passionate about advocating for quality education and gender equality. I am organizing this fundraiser to help girls in Kitenga, Tanzania, continue their high school education.
Working as an intern for the Girls Education Collaborative (GEC) this past summer, I was able to witness a new perspective on what life is like in marginalized communities and in these development sectors. It was saddening and heartbreaking to see how the girls’ education at the ‘Kitenga Secondary School for Girls’ was deeply affected by the global pandemic.
Fundraising need:
Transitioning from middle school (primary school) to high school (secondary school) is a challenge for many Kitenga girls. Most of the girls have only been taught in Swahili-based education for the majority of their lives. However, all secondary schools in Tanzania are taught in English. This is a huge struggle for the girls because their local primary schools were not taught in English. Combining the academic difficulty with the language challenges can be a barrier to advancing on their education scale.
How the funds will be used:
I am organizing this fundraiser in partnership with GEC. The funds will be used to support the ‘Launch a Leader’ Program, a 12-week pre-secondary school program that allows the girls to strengthen their English and academic skills to have a smoother and successful transition to high school.
As the CEO of Digital Educate, my focus is to bridge the gap in girls’ education by addressing the need for equality and diversity in the industry. Digital Educate is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide education, mentorship, and access to digital media to marginalized communities worldwide.
Please donate to help the Kitenga girls achieve their dreams in education! Any amount of donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
