Help Kirsten Rebuild Her Life After Severe Illness and Disability
My name is Kirsten. I am 65 years old and live in Denmark.
Earlier in my life I was a Danish badminton champion and later worked for many years as a nurse, dedicating my life to caring for others.
But life changed dramatically.
Over the years I have undergone more than 50 surgeries and now live with severe chronic pain and serious health complications. After a traumatic accident in 2015 I was left with a paralyzed foot, which has made me partially disabled.
During the COVID-19 pandemic I became critically ill and nearly lost my life. The long-term complications forced me into early retirement on disability pension.
Today I live on a very limited income and struggle to afford essential things such as:
• medication
• physiotherapy and rehabilitation
• psychological support
• transportation to medical treatment
• basic living expenses like food
Despite everything life has thrown at me, I refuse to give up.
I train every week and work hard to rebuild my strength and independence. My dream is to regain enough strength to compete again and possibly work toward participating in the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
Your support will help me continue the treatments and rehabilitation that give me a chance to rebuild my life.
Every contribution — no matter the size — makes a real difference.
If you cannot donate, sharing my story would mean the world to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
With gratitude,
Kirsten
