Help Kira Gain Safe Access to Her Home
Donation protected
Hi! I’m trying to raise funds to help my disabled daughter access her apartment. Her current setup has forced us to buy her a very short, steep wheelchair ramp which heads right into a cement support for the stairs right in front of her door. It’s very difficult to use and scares Kira each time she uses it. I consider it “an accident waiting to happen”. It also cannot be left down so her attendants have to place it and remove it each time she enters her place. Thus, it can’t be bolted to the threshold as it should be; so an aide, especially a substitute, placing it wrong and causing it to slip adds to how unsafe it is for Kira.
Kira has an end apartment with a walkway that goes by its side. We have figured out with her apartment manager that a gate could be built in the wood fence that goes onto her patio. That would give her a totally flat, safe access into her apartment. No more scary ramp needed. However, the apartment complex will not pay to have it done and they insist that a contractor be used which makes this more difficult and more expensive.
We have searched for groups and agencies to help fund it and failed, so we are reaching out to our friends and family for help. Any tiny bit is sincerely appreciated.
