My name is Kip Martin, and I am a dancer, teacher, and choreographer living in Philadelphia. For the past 20 years, I have owned and operated Symmetry-dancewellness, a dance studio dedicated solely to adult learners of ballet and dance. My journey has taken me from humble beginnings in Philadelphia to performing in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Chamonix, and throughout Europe and the United States. After years of sharing my passion, I returned home to create a space where adults could experience the joy and discipline of dance.

In October 2024, I was diagnosed with a pre-cancerous cyst in my stomach. The treatment made me incredibly sick, forcing me to step away from daily operations at the studio. I hired two highly skilled ballet teachers to keep classes going, but because adult ballet is often personality-driven, attendance dropped. My illness lasted nearly a year, and I had to use what little savings I had to pay for the studio and teachers. When I returned in January, my client base was depleted, and I have been scraping and pushing ever since. Summer is always a slow time for the studio, but this year has been the lightest attendance in Symmetry's history.

Meanwhile, an acquaintance entrusted me with Paradise, a beautiful Samoyed puppy, to help uplift my spirit during these difficult days. Now, I am facing eviction from my apartment, which means Paradise and I are at risk of homelessness. The studio could offer a temporary roof, but it is not equipped for living. I am determined not to give up without a serious fight. I am asking for help in this trying time to allow me to continue the work I started twenty years ago, to keep Symmetry-dancewellness alive, and to ensure Paradise and I have a safe place to stay.
