On April 14, 2025 Kinzer wasn't quite himself, didn't want to eat and didn't have much energy. April 15, Terri took him to the vet and they ran labs, X-ray and ultrasound. They said he had some gallbladder sludge and also thought maybe he had some back pain.
They sent them home with some meds.
He had not improved over the next couple days, he got worse. Terri also found a large lump on his neck that wasn't there Monday. They tested that and it was not cancer, inflammation and infection.
He went back on the 17th and his labs were not good and he had a fever. They kept him overnight and gave him fluids and antibiotics. The next day they sent them home again with more medications.
Kinzer seems to maybe improve a little for a few days and then he would decline again.
Terri was in contact with the vet every day or every couple days.
Kinzer had a couple more stays at the vet with meds and labs drawn, X-rays and ultrasounds.
He would improve then decline.
On Friday May 9th he had significantly declined and they went for a second opinion. They did labs, xray and ultrasound. They treated for infection and told them that he would be most comfortable at home for the weekend and had a follow up on Monday. They had the labs and xray sent to a radiologist and that confirmed pneumonia.
Kinzer did not improve at all over the weekend and went for his follow up on Monday. His labs were even worse and they suspect sepsis. Keep in mind he hasn't ate anything other than Terri syringe feeding him baby food with his medications! He was drinking with a lot of encouragement.
They kept him over night again and did fluids and multiple medications.
Today-May 13
30 days later they have been referred to K-State and are on the way to get some answers and praying they can get Kinzer back to himself!
Many have followed Kinzer The Adventure Dog over these 6 years! We hope everyone will be able continue following along on his adventures.
Thank you to everyone for the calls, texts, and prayers over these last few weeks.
If you would like to donate to help with the costs of his medical treatment, the family would greatly appreciate it.
Terri & Shawn Barry are always there to help when in need, so now I need your help to help them get Kinzer better.
Kinzer just isn't a dog; he is a friend to all, office dog, travel buddy, and is always there for a snuggle when he knows you are sad!
