I’m Kinsey, and I’m asking for help during one of the hardest seasons of my life. For more than two years, I waited for my Social Security disability hearing while living with the effects of a traumatic brain injury, bipolar disorder, autism, and PTSD.

When my disability claim was denied, I felt devastated and overwhelmed. In August, I experienced a serious mental health crisis that led to an ambulance ride, an emergency room visit, and a seven-day psychiatric hospitalization.

I applied for financial assistance as soon as the bills arrived that still hasn't been approved or denied, but I am still dealing with the financial fallout from that experience.

I have appealed the disability denial, but I have been told the process could take many more months. In the meantime, I am trying to recover and doing my best to stay afloat.

I have not given up on building a better future. Since August, I have been applying for more than 300 remote jobs each month, starting an Etsy account as an artist and currently having 0 sales, and trying to promote my book I published in June based on a true story of events I experienced in 2022 that resulted in my brain injury.

My fiancé has cared for me and supported me through some of the most difficult times in my life, and he is also a carer for his mother, who has multiple disabilities and is not able to leave. Being separated while I struggle with my health and finances has been incredibly hard, and I dream of us finally having a place to call home together.

Moving to Australia would help me be under the care of my fiancé and have better medical healthcare support while I continue recovering. Getting there will take more than a plane ticket, but it gives me something hopeful to work toward while I recover and wait on my appeal. Support from this fundraiser would help me address urgent needs and work toward stability.

  • Medical and related expenses: $7,876 from my emergency room visit, psychiatric hospitalization, and other urgent costs I need to manage now.
  • Immigration costs: the partner visa alone costs $8,231.99 USD, along with required medical exams, police certificates, and other necessary documents depending on our eligibility
  • Travel and housing: airfare from Florida to Australia and initial rent
  • Moving and stability: basic moving costs and a small financial cushion as I work toward a more stable future

The exact immigration, airfare, and visa timing will depend on our circumstances, and any funds raised would be used toward these needs, with immediate expenses among my first priorities.

Why I’m asking for help: Writing this has been difficult because I never imagined I would find myself in this position. I have tried to do everything I can to help myself. I’ve applied for jobs, created a shop, published a book, submitted financial assistance requests, and appealed my disability denial. I am not giving up on myself or my future. I want to recover, find stability, and have the opportunity to be with my fiancé without the constant fear of another financial setback.

If you are able to donate, it would mean more to me than I can put into words, and every dollar would help. If donating is not possible, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much.

I’m also including links to my Etsy shop and my book on Amazon for anyone who would like to support me in another way:

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your kindness, and for helping in any way you can. Your support gives me hope during one of the hardest chapters of my life.
