Help Kinga Get Eye Surgery

From Kinga:

I never thought I would be someone for whom a GoFundMe Page would be created. But I guess life throws us unexpected challenges - some we can face alone, while with others we are required to rely on the kindness, selflessness, and generosity of others.

Those who know me, know me as the person who shows up to serve and bless others. I got used to (and very good) at this role. But I have never been good at asking help for myself. To this day, this is still hard for me to do. But then life and its challenges force us to do the uncomfortable.

My health situation starts at my birth. I was born with a rare disease in both my eyes known as Keratoconus. But I wasn’t diagnosed with it until I was a teenager and by then, my vision was extremely weak. This condition causes the cornea to constantly and gradually thin, causing a blurred and weakened vision which can lead to complete blindness.

I had my first two corneal transplants in both my eyes while I was in High School. These surgeries happened in Hungary because in my home country there wasn’t even one specialist who could do this procedure at this time. This surgery comes with a painful and extremely slow recovery process (6 month to one year), although my least favourite part is still all the injections they would give directly into my eye. It didn’t matter how many eye drops they would give to numb the eye, the pain would still be great and I was not allowed to move my eye. Tough and painful, but when we find ourselves in such situations, we find it in ourselves to rise to the occasion as there is no other option.

I had a third corneal transplant just a few years ago in Canada. By that time I have already lived in Canada for about 5 years. It was just as scary with a very slow and painful recovery process. During my recovery process, my work permit expired and I wasn’t able to renew it, so I had to move back home to Romania and continue my recovery here.

Everything was looking good until recently. Just a few weeks ago, within moments, my vision decreased drastically in my left eye. With this eye I was able to read even without my prescription glasses, and within moments I stopped being able to read even with my prescription glasses. I cannot express in words just how scary this situation is to me, and how helpless I feel going through it all again.

I have been in the process of undergoing many tests and procedures. The goal is to help keep the transplanted cornea healthy. But, my health insurance does not cover any of these costs, and I got to the end of my savings. My family and friends who were able to help me financially, they kindly did. But I am still in need of help. I have been in a lot of pain over the last week, so I am immensely grateful to have friends who help in any way they can, one of them being setting up this page for me. The medical documents I am able to provide as proof in English are the ones from Canada and I hope they will serve as enough proof.

For anyone and everyone who donates, thank you. Words truly fall short in expressing my gratitude to you all. I am confident that your kindness, care, and generosity will be rewarded many times over. I do wish and pray for this to be the case.
