Hi! My name is Kimed Jones and I’m a high school student from Oakland, California. I love science and biology, and I enjoy researching foreign history, languages, and culture.
I’ve been given the opportunity to go on a school science trip to Costa Rica, where I’ll take part in a hands-on research program focused on tagging and studying the endangered Leatherback sea turtle (my favorite animal). This experience would allow me to directly learn about marine life, practice real-world scientific data collection and analysis outside of the classroom, as well as see how scientific research is conducted in the field.
Through this trip, I will also be able to earn college credits in Environmental Service Learning and observe how plastic pollution, climate change, and the destabilization of our ocean ecosystems affect this endangered species.
Moreover, this trip will allow me to experience what it’s like to travel to another country for educational and research purposes, learn more about Latin America, and practice Spanish.
Any support– whether it’s by donating or sharing this fundraiser– would mean the world to me and help make this educational adventure possible. Thank you for your time and support!
