In 2018, I started a business dedicated to helping people build and repair their credit. The business grew faster than I ever expected, and I was able to buy my home outright in my company’s name as an asset. My former business partner, who owned 15% of the company, was on board with this plan. Unfortunately, after years of manipulation, stalking, abuse, and gaslighting, I made the decision to fire him and dissolve the company so I could start fresh.

The situation escalated quickly. He was arrested twice—once for an armed attempt to enter my home I caught on security cameras, and again for violating a protective order. Despite these actions, he managed to transfer the deed to my home into his own newly created business while on house arrest, using his partial ownership as justification without my signature. He also changed the tax address, so I never received any tax notices from the county for two years. He then proceeded to hire and lie to a local lawyer to serve me a notice to vacate or an eviction notice would be filed. I had to spend a significant amount to hire a lawyer to fight this as well just for him not to show up and court and have his lawyer withdraw formally because of his nefarious actions. He has also FRAUDULENTLY put a lien on my land in Texas to prevent me from taking a HELOC or safely selling without him stealing more money. I do have a lawyer on retainer in Texas for that as well but that has to take the back seat to this home for now,

One month ago, I got a letter in the mail from the Tax office. To my heart sinking shock, I was being informed of 2 years of taxes not paid and the intent to sell MY home on JUNE 2, 2026 if the past taxes were not paid. The minimum to save my home would be the 2024 taxes. The remaining 2025 balance was still eligible for a payment plan. Now, I am facing back taxes that I never knew about. Paying them is the only way I can keep my home until my lawyer, and I can navigate through the mess to get my home back. In addition to all this I am also solely financially responsible for my mom who is currently in an assisted living home as her needs were more than I was qualified to handle. That has put a large strain on my personal finances that has kept me from being able to handle this more effectively.
