Help Kimberly McCarthy’s Family
In February 2021, my sister Kimberly found out she had a Thymoma tumor on her liver. The timing of this news was particularly devastating as she had just had her second child—a beautiful baby girl—a month before. But, like the fighter she is, Kim underwent 8 rounds of chemotherapy from March to June to help shrink the tumor. Even through the many hard and painful side effects of chemo, she kept her head up and clung to one bright hope: that beating this cancer would finally put an end to the many health scares she and her family had been through over the last few years.
Finally, in July 2021, the doctors told Kim that the tumor had shrunk small enough to operate on. The hospital scheduled her surgery for July 29, 2021—the doctors told her family that the procedure would take between 4-7 hours if everything went smoothly. Unfortunately, that did not come to pass. Due to unforeseen complications, Kim has been in the hospital every day since July 29, fighting to stay with us. She has had to undergo two additional surgeries, endure many different courses of medication and treatments, and has been subjected to countless rounds of tests. As of this writing, she remains in the ICU at the OSU Wexner Medical Center.
Kim has two daughters, Scarlet (8 years old) and Evangeline (7 months old). Her devoted husband, Pierce, has been by her side every minute the hospital will allow, working closely with Kim’s medical team to make sure she is getting the absolute best care available. But Kim still has a long road of recovery ahead of her, which her doctors and her family are taking one day at a time.
Kim is one of the toughest, strong-willed people we know, and we know that she will continue to fight with everything she’s got for her family that she loves so dearly. But her medical situation has placed a significant financial burden on her family. She and Pierce just closed on a new home in July and now have a mortgage and bills that need to be paid. Their two dogs, Bucky and Rocket, and two cats, Thor and Wanda, have been boarded, which is incurring costs.
We are so grateful for all the encouraging messages and love that the family has received—please keep it coming. Anything you can contribute would be hugely appreciated.
